Program Goals and Measurable Outcomes:

DPD Program Goals, Outcome Measures, and Student Learning Outcomes

Program Goal 1: The DPD program will provide an academic background in dietetics and its’ supporting disciplines for supervised practice and/or employment.

            Outcome Measures:

  1. Over a 5-year period, 75% of graduates who apply to supervised practice (dietetic internships) will be successfully placed.
  2. Within 12 months of graduation, 75% of graduates will have obtained dieteticinternship, post-graduate studies, or employment in the field of dietetics.
  3. Over a 5-year period, 80% of first-time test takers will pass the Registration Exam.
  4. 85% of junior/senior students who are enrolled in the DPD will complete it within 3 years.

Program Goal 2: The DPD Program will provide opportunities for the development of critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills that will prepare students for success in completing a dietetic internship program and entry-level dietetics practice.

            Outcome Measures:

  1. 90% of  students will indicate on exit surveys that they “agree” or “strongly agree” that their DPD education helped them to improve their problem solving skills.
  2. 90% of students will indicate on exit surveys that they  “agree” or “strongly agree” that their DPD education helped them to  improve their critical  thinking skills.
  3. 90% of DI program directors will indicate that MSU DPD graduates were adequately prepared for success in the DI program.

 

DPD Student Learning Outcomes

DPD Student Learning Outcome 1:
Students will demonstrate oral and written communication skills effectively.

            Outcome Measures:
            1. 85% of students will have knowledge of counseling theory and methods
            2. 85% of students will have knowledge of interviewing techniques
            3. 85% of students will have demonstrated the ability to use oral and written
                communications in presenting an educational session for a group

DPD Student Learning Outcome 2:
Students will be able to apply knowledge of food science and management to the functions of the foodservice system.

            Outcome Measures:

  1. 85% of students will have knowledge of food safety and sanitation
  2. 85% of students will have knowledge of food delivery systems
  3. 85% of students will have demonstrated the ability to determine recipe/formula proportions and modifications for volume food production
  4. 85% of students will have demonstrated the ability to demonstrate basic food preparation and presentation skills

DPD Student Learning Outcome 3:
Students will be able to perform nutritional assessments and demonstrate their understanding of the role of nutrients and food for an individual’s life span and for various health conditions.

            Outcome Measures:

  1. 85% of students will have knowledge of nutrient metabolism and medical nutrition therapy related to nutrition care
  2. 85% of students will have knowledge of assessment and treatment of nutritional health risks
  3. 85% of students will have demonstrated the ability to calculate enteral and parenteral nutrition formulations
  4. 85% of students will have knowledge of research methodologies and outcomes-based research
